Premiering Sunday, the eighth night of Hanukkah, the effulgent
"Menorah" a symbol of the original Declaration of Independence, will be shining as a beacon for All Peoples.
There was a time in history when one's right to independent
worship, went unrecognized.
About 2,200 years ago, an event occurred that firmly established this principle in the consciousness of humanity.
It was in the year of 167 B.C.E., the first war in history was fought to preserve a People's way of life...
their laws, standards of morality and above all their religion,
that was revealed to them in the wilderness at Mount Sinai,
more than 1000 years before.
The Jewish people led by the Maccabees, fought to break the
religious tyranny of conquerors of ancient Judea, who
threatened the very survival of the Jewish way of life.
The Maccabees and their followers, struggled, not for a personal gain, but rather to preserve their Jewish faith.
Their ultimate victory, which is ours today, is a triumph for
justice and human dignity.
It brought to humanity's attention an ideal that transcends
life itself.
Hanukkah, is the Jewish festival that commemorates that
victory of rekindling our light. For eight nights, candles are lit and as the candles
shine bright, it gives assurance that the message of faith will
one day serve to banish tyranny and oppression from the
Earth, for all people's.
It is a yearly recurring declaration of humanity's independence, a memorable reassertion of the God-given right
of all human beings to live and worship in freedom.
Yes, Hanukkah is called the "Festival of Lights"' it illuminates
justice.
It is the effulgent bright light of freedom that glows in the heart
of all peoples.
IT IS WHAT MAKES US JEWS !
